Change or Add Vacuum Pump Oil
| Drain the oil while the pump is warm and disconnected from the power source. |
The pump must be removed from the analyzer to change the oil. Use oil supplied by Micromeritics or refer to the vacuum pump manual for other acceptable oils.
- Unplug the vacuum pump from the power source.
- Remove the exhaust filter by loosening the wing nut on the clamp between the vacuum pump exhaust filter and the mercury vapor filter.
- Remove the centering ring and place to the side.
- Remove the vacuum hose from the vacuum pump by loosening the wing nut on the clamp between the vacuum pump and the vacuum hose.
- Remove the centering ring and place to the side.
- Remove the pump from inside the analyzer.
- Remove the vacuum pump from inside the analyzer .
- at the top of the oil vapor trap. Swing the clamp open and remove the trap from the hose.
- Grasp the handle on top of the vacuum pump and place the pump on a work surface.
- Place a waste container under the drain spout.
- Remove the drain plug and drain the oil into the waste container.
- Replace the drain plug.
- Remove the drain plug from the oil-fill port on top of the pump.
- Slowly add oil to the port until the level is midway between the indicator lines in the oil-level window when the pump is running.
| Do not allow oil to rise above the midway position when the pump is running. Doing so may cause oil to splash into the oil filter causing contamination. |
- Check the washer or O-ring used at the oil-filling port and replace if necessary.
- Insert the oil-fill plug and turn clockwise to tighten.
- Return the vacuum pump to the original position inside the analyzer.
- Reconnect the vacuum pump hose.
- Reconnect the exhaust filter to the top of the mercury vapor filter.
- Reconnect the power cord to the power source.
- Turn the vacuum pump on and recheck the oil level.
- Allow the pump to run a few hours (overnight if possible) to eliminate air and moisture from the fresh fluid and to produce efficient vacuum operations.
